RT by @HelgaTruepel: In this nocturnal shift of sad thoughts, I look back at the last quarter of 2023 and realize that it was the worst time not only in Israeli history, but also in my personal life.
Worse than all previous private calamities, the death of loved ones, failures, betrayal, accidents, injuries. Or public calamities, wars, terror attacks. Nothing measures up to 7 October 2023 and its ongoing impact.
It’s that personal.
But also collective.
And for many Israelis, the behavior of our government injects poison into the open wounds.
It’s an intersection of dark tunnels spiralling down to our worst nightmares.
We are not post-traumatic but undergoing a rolling trauma.
Yes, Gazans are also facing a nightmarish downturn, but the difference is that the global community is attuned to their pain.
A gaping dissonance, an abyss, has opened between the Israelis’ collective experience and the rest of the world. Our leadership is not helping to bridge it.
I have never known such fear and danger before.
