However, I believe that politics is the art of the possible.
We have sunk so far under this government that the ship of state is about to collide with an enormous iceberg. Before considering our eventual course, we have to wrench controls from the captain & try to steer the ship around. Only when we have averted the greatest danger (charter cities etc) can we set a 'steady as she goes' for the EU.
I agree that taking back control is the first priority.
