With my 16 fellow MEPs we stand up against communist oppression

Since 1988, the EU has funded over 200 development projects in for 300 million EUR. 80 projects for 155 million EUR are still ongoing.

Little is known on how these funds are spent.

According to NGOs, eg. Frente Hemisferico por la Libertad, aid often ends up in the hands of Cuban  Party's upper echelons, police & military forces & is spent on oppressive tools used against protesters. By this 🇪🇺 contributes to strengthening the totalitarian regime.

The EP in its resolution from 2021 expressed regret that, despite the ’s adoption, the situation of & human rights has seriously deteriorated. While PDCA includes a clause making its implementation conditional on the improvement of freedoms & human rights in Cuba.

1.     How does it monitor to what purpose the were spent & that they were not used to strengthen the oppression?

2.     How does it check whether no re-export of these goods takes place towards other oppressive regimes such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia or Iran?

3.     Will the EU uphold the essential elements clause of PDCA and respond to EP’s call to trigger Article 85(3b) and put conditionality into practice due to the deterioration of the situation?
