Naturally, there is a big pre-match media build-up on today's vote "on recognising the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism." Nice to see Irish media taking an interest in what happens here.

This does not condone Russia's actions in Ukraine. As I consistently have done, in votes on individual parts, I condemn Russia's invasion and call for a withdrawal. My overall vote is against the improper and unwise call for the use of a "state sponsor of terrorism" designation.

The proposal is an abuse of this institution by extremist factions to throw up roadblocks to peace and prolong a war that is devastating Ukraine & impoverishing our continent. That's why I will be voting against.
