The issue of amending the European Treaties to create a centralised power in Brussels is not just a political process in the form of, for example, a vote in the European Parliament. Extensive groundwork is already being laid to get ready for these changes.
This can be shown, among other things, by a survey conducted by the European Investment Bank - a survey which is apparently designed to show that Europeans (including Poles) want to pay higher taxes to 'fight for the climate'.
Planned EU Treaty changes include the transfer of taxation powers from Member States to Brussels - including the ability to impose new pan-European taxes. Decisions on these taxes will not be influenced by citizens, parliaments, or even the governments of EU Member States.
If the European Commission is given new competences, it will then be able to invoke the results of one or another 'poll' to justify a new tax.
