This year, we're committed to spending around £156million on humanitarian needs in the region, building on the £76m spent so far.
We are prioritising protection against immediate threats to life.
The situation in East Africa is heart wrenching.
In Somalia alone, over 386,000 children are projected to be severely malnourished & at risk of death by the end of this year without action.
That's around the same number of children as there are at Primary School in Scotland.
The 🇬🇧 has just announced £14m of time-critical, life-saving funding to East Africa.
To address the suffering and avert loss of life, the international community must prioritise a collective response to this crisis
I sent my top humanitarian officials to see how UK aid and action is helping the most vulnerable people in Africa with ongoing drought and food shortages. It’s my priority, and I am calling on the international community to do more to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.
