Today, I visited the Irish Defence Forces Cadet School in the Curragh Camp, where I had the pleasure to meet and speak with three Maltese Officer Cadets who are currently undergoing Cadetship training with the Irish Defence Forces.

During the meeting for which I was accompanied by Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli, we discussed the war in Ukraine, multilateralism and the priorities of the two countries in the United Nations Security Council, as Ireland was a non-permanent member before Malta.

We also visited the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) within the University, where we followed a presentation on the institute's work which focuses on the environmental challenges of climate change, circular economy, and healthy environment.

At University College Cork, @PresidentIRL and I had an interesting meeting with a group of students, including two Maltese students, focusing among others, on climate change and environmental protection.

Upon our arrival, we had a courtesy meeting with the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, Mr Damien Boylan at Cork City Hall.

In my speech, I remarked that the great affinity between our two peoples manifests not only, through high-level political exchanges and contacts but especially through those that lie at the heart of our communities – our people-to-people contacts.
