The engagements in #Latvia continued this morning. Accompanied by the delegation, Miriam and I visited the National Library of Latvia.

I presented a number of books about Malta: the festa, Maltese literature, history, Valletta, and a book in Maltese.

In my speech, I remarked that the tracks on which #Malta & #Latvia have developed are increasingly similar, despite the different geographic and regional contexts. Very importantly, our peoples come closer at all levels, and are nowadays pivotal to the depth of our ties.

The first day of the Official Visit to #Latvia ended with an Official Dinner hosted by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits and the First Lady of Latvia, Mrs Andra Levite.

Accompanied by the Minister for Public Works and Planning, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and the delegation, I visited the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia - a museum that brings the history of Latvia to life. Let our children learn from the past to be ready to face the future.

In Riga, I had separate meetings with the Prime Minister of #Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, and with the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (Parliament of Latvia), Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica.

Following the bilateral talks, President Egils Levits and I laid a wreath at the Freedom Monument in the Centre of Riga, commemorating those who were killed during the Latvian War of Independence.

We also discussed the current European and global issues, the war in Ukraine, the way ahead for a more secure and prosperous Europe, migration, and the situation in the Mediterranean.

My engagements in #Latvia commenced this morning with an official meeting with President Egils Levits at the Riga Palace. We had an interesting discussion, amongst others, on the good relationship and constructive cooperation between our two countries.

It was a pleasure to join the Tunisian community in Malta to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Tunisia. #Malta and #Tunisia have had a close relationship for centuries. Our proximity made it possible to have a lasting bond that was built through people-to-people ties.

Earlier today, I attended the Mabel Strickland Memorial Lecture organised by The Strickland Foundation and Casino Maltese. This year’s lecture titled “Malta in a Changing European Landscape” was delivered by Dr Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.

Miriam and I attended a Solemn TeDeum Mass on the tenth anniversary of the Pontificate of H.H. Pope Francis and the first anniversary of the Apostolic visit to Malta and Gozo, celebrated by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

On the 175th anniversary since the establishment of the @MaltaChamber, I expressed my appreciation for the work it carries out, not only for the economic & commercial strengthening of our country but also for the many occasions it provides analyses & multidisciplinary guidance.

Today we are discussing 𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒆𝒄𝒉. While I appreciate that mutual respect should be taught from birth within the family nucleus, I firmly believe that education is the core of the solution to 'hate speech'.

It was a pleasure to join the Irish community in Malta to celebrate the National Day of #Ireland. Our diplomatic relations were established 33 years ago. Our friendship, however, is deep-rooted in centuries of common history, struggles, beliefs & manifestations of mutual respect.
