I presented the Letters of Credence to Mr John Busuttil, who will shortly be taking up the post as the Ambassador of #Malta to #China. We recalled the excellent ties that exist between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations over fifty years ago.

Miriam and I enjoyed attending the President's New Year Concert 2023, which is now a landmark event in the Maltese cultural calendar. I would like to congratulate @MaltaPhil under the direction of Maestro Alan Chircop and Soprano Gillian Zammit for the wonderful concert.

I had the pleasure to receive the team that worked on the Maltese translation of Dr Paul Cassar’s book ‘Storja Medika ta’ Malta’. In its original form, it was a groundbreaking publication of invaluable importance for our country.

During a courtesy call, the Committee of the Għaqda Mużikali San Girgor Ta’ Kerċem presented me with their book ‘L-Għaqda Mużikali San Girgor Ta’ Kerċem - Storja tal-Ewwel 25 Sena 1997 -2022’. The Committee also presented a donation for the Malta Community Chest Fund.

This morning I had the pleasure to receive Mr Mario Axiaq, who presented me his book ‘Jien u l-Esperjenzi ta’ Ħajti’. A publication that, through personal experience, reflects important local and international developments, mostly in football, broadcasting and music festivals.

Earlier today, I received a courtesy call by H.E. Jesmond Cutajar, Ambassador of #Malta to #Iceland. I welcomed prospects for increased commercial and cultural dialogue between Malta and Iceland, this year celebrating 25 years of diplomatic relations.

Yesterday, Miriam and I attended a De Requiem Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, celebrated by Archbishop of Malta Charles J. Scicluna at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.

During a meeting with the President of the Thalidomide Survivors Malta, Mr Anatole Baldacchino, & researcher Mr Michael Debattista, I had the opportunity to hear in more detail about the research & permanent consequences that this medicine had on patients in the years 1957-1961.

Shocked and saddened by the news I just received that former Parliamentary Secretary and colleague in politics Silvio Parnis has passed on to eternal life. My sincere condolences to his relatives and loved ones.

Earlier today, I signed the book of condolence for His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI at the Apostolic Nunciature in #Malta. On behalf of the people of Malta, I salute his memory. His teaching, writings and reflections will guide the church for many years to come.
