The Maltese National Anthem still unites us and promotes unity. It still serves as a compass pointing us towards cherishing our values. Yesterday we commemorated one hundred years of the Maltese National Anthem during an event in honour of the National Poet Dun Karm Psaila.

This evening, we celebrated the national day of together with the Spanish community in Malta. Occasions such as this one provide us with the best possible scenario to reflect together on the excellent nature of relations that have for centuries linked our two countries.

100 years since the first 'Poppy Appeal' was held by the Malta Branch of the Royal British Legion, I urged everyone to reflect on what we're going through now and hope that what has happened in the past will not repeat itself in the future.

Let us make this year’s ‘Poppy Day’ event something which can be translated by young people into what we are currently living through and also a warning that what has happened in the past, hopefully, will not repeat itself in the future.

The centenary of the Royal British Legion ‘Poppy Appeal’ is an opportunity to reflect and raise more awareness on the significance of the poppy. When everyone thought that war was something of the past, we are right in the middle of another war in Europe. (cont.)

I received the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada @AnthonyRota on a courtesy call at San Anton Palace. The strengthening of the relations between Malta and Canada was discussed from different angles, ranging from exchanges at political level and people to people contacts.

On the @Armed_Forces_MT Day, on Sunday evening, Miriam and I attended Mass at Lyster Barracks in Ħal Far. Soon after, we followed, amongst others, a Concert by the AFM Band. We salute all the members of the AFM for their dedication in carrying out their duties.

I held a meeting with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany. We discussed at length developments in the Western Balkans from the perspective of the enlargement of the EU, the latest scenario in Ukraine & the developments in the Mediterranean, particularly those in Libya.

Reference was also made to the latest developments concerning borders in the Eastern Mediterranean. I stated that international law is the only viable means to resolve such disputes. @PresidencyGR
