We have about 320 Gt of CO2 left in the carbon budget globally to give us a 50% chance of avoiding going over 1.5 degrees warming. We are emitting about 40 Gt of CO2 a year.
We cannot waste this budget on conspicuous consumption by the wealthy. We need it for a just transition.

The average private jet to or from Ireland emits about 10 tonnes of carbon, just slightly under what the average Irish person emits in an entire year, or the equivalent of driving 40,000km.
We are in an emergency, we are running out of time, and we need to act.

Today, @pb4p is introducing a Bill to ban private jets from Ireland.
These are the epitome of social and climate injustice, where the richest 1% is responsible for 16% of global emissions, but the poorest pay the price.

@SeanGLynch1 I agree. The Gardai should have intervened to stop the threats of violence by private security who threw furniture onto the street.

RT @NewstalkFM: Commentators have criticised proposed legislation to ban most private jets from Irish airspace.

We know that the political establishment want rid of all traces if neutrality.
The question journalists should be asking them is whether they intend to submit dropping the triple lock and further participation in EU militarisation to a referendum?

@sirotek1916 I proposed a referendum on it. The government voted it down.

This is the government's plan:
1. Scrap Triple Lock
2. Participate in more NATO alliances like Partnership for "Peace"
3. Join EU Common Foreign and Security Policy
4. Join NATO
We have to stop them.

@JamesMcQuadee It's not in the Constitution, so they can change without referendum.

This is boringly predictable as is the outcome of the so-called consultative forums which are being chaired by a supporter of US militarism.
Do the people get to have a say?
