This is key point.

We cannot keep adding electricity demand and expect to become 100% renewable.

We have to try to reduce usage while investing in renewables.

That's route to the most rapid achievement of 100% renewables, while minimising impact on other planetary boundaries.
RT @HannahEDaly: Despite strong renewables growth, greenhouse gas pollution for electricity generation rose last year as a result of strong demand growth, mainly from data centers, and als…

@LifeandtimesM It isn't as simple as that. If we use all our extra renewable capacity for more data centres, we'll never get to 100% renewable.

Yes we need some data centres.

But a huge amount of what goes on (eg algorithms targeting you with ads), we don't need.

When there's a blackout because of insatiable data centre electricity demand prioritised by the government, will they then accept (too late) that we need a ban on further centres?

Householders are doing their bit while the government allows data centres to use more and more energy.

We need a ban on them.
RT @rtenews: Households reduced their consumption of electricity last year by 9%, according to new figures published by the Central Statistics Office. However, data centres increased their power consumption by 31% and now account for 18% of electricity used. rte.ie/news/business/2023/0612

@donlav I'm sorry to break bad news to you. We don't have food security. Ireland is a net importer of calories.

If we break from model of industrialised dairy and beef farming and switch to farming based on principles of food sovereignty and agroecology, then we can have security.

Almost 1,000 homes with solar panels are waiting 4 months or more to get a smart meter. As result, they're not being paid for surplus electricity.

While waiting, they should be paid the "deemed amount" that those who ineligible for smart meters get.
