Out talking to people today with @PBPtallaght about our proposal for scrapping the licence fee and funding public service broadcasting properly through a Big Tech Tax.

More and more people are refusing to pay the licence fee. This is a regressive unjust tax which should go.
Instead of replacing it with a broadcasting charge on ordinary families as the government plans, we should tax the Big Tech companies.

PBP warned lifting the eviction ban would mean people being evicted into homelessness. That is happening now.
The government decided to enable more homelessness to facilitate landlords. Why? Because they are a government of landlords for the landlords.

Sinn Féin should join @pb4p in pledging not to put FF or FG back into power.
Despite the spin the poll details actually shows that the most popular potential government after the next election is a government excluding Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.

Italy has just announced it will hit the big banks with a new tax on their mega profits - we should do the same.
The banks are making a killing by hoarding the interest rate rises, hitting mortgage holders but not passing it on to those saving.

Re Bank of Ireland, AIB and PTSB have made €4 billion in profits in the first half of this year - tripling their profits from last year.
That’s because they have almost €60 billion on deposit with the ECB at an interest rate of almost 4%.

Re But while they are passing on the increase in interest to mortgage holders, many of whom are facing €500 extra a month in repayments, they are passing on none of it to those with savings.
We need a publicly owned banking system run as a public utility for society as a whole.

People want to get out of their cars & to reduce emissions. It is the government’s fault that many of them can’t.
We need investment in free, frequent and green train and bus system, along with walking and cycling infrastructure.

Join this protest and demand Justice for Terence Wheelock.
His family have had to campaign for truth and justice for 18 years.
We need a movement of people power to force an independent public inquiry.

Re @particularhand How they talk about "electeds" and "power" is really bizarre to me. It is the perspective of an NGO lobby group.

Forget the figures showing we have the highest levels of homelessness ever, that's just your psyche talking.

Landlords calling for tax breaks because otherwise they'll exit the market.
But when you suggest they sell if they want and state buys homes at market rate, providing asset for state, secure tenure for tenant and exit for landlord, they say, not like that.
Makes you wonder 🤔

The growth of socialism & DSA in US has inspired many globally. The decisions at convention this weekend will be important.
A shift to left with a new leadership committed to independence from Democrats would be a real boost internationally.

Re I’ve known @PhilipLocker for years, he is a committed internationalist and anti-imperialist, and a proven organiser of principled and victorious socialist electoral campaigns.
It would be very exciting to see more of that across the DSA.
