@TellusQ @Jebadoo2 @briancanavan1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn You're getting annoyed with the wrong person? It was Stonewall's advice, not mine.

My view is that it's nobodies business but your own who you are or aren't attracted to: no-one should have to explain themselves on that score.

@CenasDaFaba @Chris_English_1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn You'll have to take that up with them.

People have no obligation to feel attracted to anyone else. It's a personal matter.

@Toby_1979 @Chris_English_1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn And I have never said that is okay. Rape is never okay.
Coerced sex is rape.
No-one is entitled to sex/love/relationships. End of.

@SwissDog3 @Chris_English_1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn Tell Stonewall - they were giving the advice, not me.

I was saying (if you read the thread rather than jumping in) that no-one is being or should be forced/obligated to feel attracted to anyone.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@Chris_English_1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn And I think that's wrong. I can't see many more ways in which I can say that?

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@Jebadoo2 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn No, I'm not. I'm differentiating between being forced to do something and being asked to consider it as the two were being conflated.

I don't think it's anyone's business to tell anyone who they should be attracted to as I have said now a number of times.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@EclJonnie @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I'm literally not? I've said that it's no-one's business but your own who your attracted to? Jeez. Read the thread.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@MrMan_returns @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I'm not asking them to? Stonewall was.

I was differentiating between compelling and asking to consider.

Personally, I think we should keep politics out of people's personal lives and relationships.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@HackneyTerven @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn They have opinions. I have different ones. That's life.

People should be free to date/marry/live with whomever they choose, and it isn't anyone else's business but theirs.

Discrimination is being treated unfairly under the law. We shouldn't police people's private lives.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@DeliaGagarin @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn Some people do. Most of us have a strong preference.

I'm also not suggesting people do anything: Stonewall were. I'm merely pointing out the difference between being asked to consider and being compelled.

I don't think anyone should interfere in who others date or don't.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@a_tri_sisters @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I didn't say they did? I'm simply pointing out the difference between being asked to consider and being compelled.

You can decline to even consider it, irrespective of what Stonewall says. You like who you like, love who you love. Politics has no role in that imho.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@Chris_English_1 @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I've already made this point. People will date whomever they want and attraction is personal. No-one has the right to a date. My point is no-one is being compelled, contrary to what was stated. And with all due respect, I don't think Stonewall's advice will change any minds.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@BeullahGC @SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I've already made that point. People can date whomever they choose. Attraction is a personal issue.

My point is no-one is or should be compelled to date anyone they don't want to - which is what was being claimed.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@SimonCatRiley @squinteratn They're asking we consider how prejudice shapes our world view.

I'm a big girl with ginger hair. I found love, but societal norms would have suggested I'm not worthy in an appearance-driven culture.

Asking people to consider being more open when dating is good advice imho.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@SimonCatRiley @squinteratn "Consider". If you consider it and it isn't for you? Fair enough.

No-one is compelling anyone.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I mean, I'm heterosexual. Doesn't mean I fancy every man I see. Same goes for anyone else.

You are allowed to discriminate in love: illegal discrimination relates to statutory/employment rights, not personal relationships.

@SimonCatRiley @squinteratn I think sexual attraction is a personal issue: discrimination doesn't enter into it in my view. None of us have the "right" to be found attractive to any other person.

Thankfully, though, there's someone out there for everyone...❤️

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@squinteratn Absolutely. That, or dare to say the word 'woman', and it's a deluge of abuse and demands for definitions that exclude trans people. Even on sensitive issues like child loss. At times, I despair...
