@stephensfone @KGPorts @carlalockhart No, it doesn't to anyone who has basic English comprehension and isn't looking to take offence at everything I say.

Oddly, some of the accounts having a go at my choice of words have been involved in personal abuse online. I think that indicates their sincerity or lack thereof.

RT @LewisTBoyle: Great day today at the Ballyclare May Fair with @JohnBlairMLA. Delighted to also take part in the Mayor’s Parade. t.co/py33FeMrI5

@HughDeeny77 @carlalockhart Nothing like mansplaining online misogynistic and sexist abuse to a woman. Well done.

@tngj @GmUlster @carlalockhart I wasn't. I literally said there was no excuse. Wise up.

@dats_vgs_kid @carlalockhart I disagreed with Carla on that and can argue the case.

It doesn't make personal abuse acceptable. You can disagree vehemently and be civil.

@carlalockhart Agreed. Stay strong, and don't let it wear you down, Carla. They're not worth it.

@EmmaMcAnallen2 @M1ghtymarty @carlalockhart You can't separate the two. Being a politician doesn't prevent us having common humanity.

But not acknowledging that people use politics to excuse the inexcusable isn't addressing the problem.

@TheGeneral1979 @carlalockhart Well, it wasn't. It was admonishing those who try to justify this hatefulness because they disagree with someone's opinions.

@ClarkeyNUM1 @Javoudria @carlalockhart I think you have a problem with language. First, you didn't understand "regardless".

Now, you don't understand "backsliding," which means to lapse morally or in the practice of religion.

The word you wanted was "backtracking." ie. rowing back/reversing.

I didn't do either 🙈

@tuvpaedofriends @carlalockhart I don't speak for Carla, but I do support her in calling out this abuse.

There is no place for any of it.

@TheGeneral1979 @carlalockhart It's not relevant to this issue, and my point is that it shouldn't be.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@garethcmurray @carlalockhart That's not true.

And you're not in any position to lecture on appropriate exchanges online.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@KGPorts @carlalockhart I don't think you understand the word "regardless".

Far too many people think dislike of someone's views excuses some of the most vile, degrading, and dehumanising abuse.

My words were chosen to explicitly challenge those attitudes. Nothing justifies this.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@GmUlster @carlalockhart Because it needs to be said. Too many people on here think disliking someone's views excuses some of the most vile, degrading, and dehumanising abuse. My words were chosen to challenge that culture.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/naomi_long/st

@EmmaMcAnallen2 @M1ghtymarty @carlalockhart Of course she is. But she is a politician too, and many of those who abuse her think it is justified because they disagree with her views. I want to explicitly say that's wrong.

@superglens @FeckerDirty @carlalockhart You are precisely the kind of person I was speaking about.

You're a classic example of someone who thinks political difference justifies personal abuse.

You're why the first 4 words were required.
