@Javoudria @BeattieDoug That's quite a reach. Having an independent judiciary does not equate to a minister who does nothing.

A minister creates the law and policy: the police enforce it, the PPS prosecute it, and the judiciary sentence those guilty of breaking it.

They are operationally independent.

@BrianMc141 @Javoudria @BeattieDoug The Minister creates legislation and policy: they do not enforce it, prosecute it, or sentence those who break it.

The judiciary being independent is a pillar of our democracy. It in no way negates the legislative role of the Minister.

@Javoudria @BeattieDoug I'm not Justice Minister. We have no ministers.

Even if we did, the judiciary are completely independent of government.

@TomTory1 @Translink_NI @ChiefConPSNI Terry, no point in constantly tweeting me about this stuff. It's not my fault we have no government. Take it up with those blocking progress.

@AndrewS32704070 @BelTel @BeattieDoug I'm not Justice Minister since October.

The LCJ is not responsible for the individual sentencing decisions of judges - each judge is entirely independent of her.

The Director of @thePPSNI can, however, appeal certain sentences for undue leniency.

@Billy74282082 @BelTel @BeattieDoug Only the Director of @thePPSNI can appeal sentences against undue leniency.

Anyone (including MLAs) can write to the DPS requesting that he review a sentence with a view to an appeal.

@sense_reason @BelTel @BeattieDoug @dougbeattie @JudiciaryNI is entirely independent in sentencing.
