@JohnMar90718642 @chhcalling DOJ is likely to break even due to:

1/ receiving a proportion of the funding held centrally in DoF, released when the budget set by Westminster;
2/ a slight reduction in projected energy costs; and,
3/ cuts which we implemented, such as not filling vacancies.

@PLFitba @SorchaEastwood We didn't.

But good to know you think holding govt to ransom and using the pain of people as leverage is acceptable.

I don't.

I guess we just see the world differently. I think we're elected to serve and should be able to do so.

@dbataq1 @chhcalling The principles are clear.

And it's too late for that approach: there have already been multiple changes over the years.

It was a foundation on which we could build, not a straightjacket to constrain us from doing so.

@JohnMar90718642 @chhcalling No. It's much, much less. He ignored the money held at the centre, which departments couldn't access without an Executive.

My own department at one point had unmet pressures of >£120m. We worked to reduce that to <£75m and once a budget was set, DOJ is likely to break even.

@dbataq1 @chhcalling Did they vote for no government? I know I didn't.

There've been changes already: that's how politics works, evolving over time.

Those voting now aren't the same people who voted in 1998. Society changes: Institutions need to keep pace with it.

The principles remain in tact.

@LouiseMullan7 @chhcalling We are still working. We're accepting a cut in pay so the DUP don't get off consequence-free with blocking restoration. But they are at fault, here.

@LouiseMullan7 @chhcalling So, if a colleague locked you out of work and stopped you doing your job, you wouldn't get paid? I think you'll find that's not what would happen. Your colleague would get sacked.

@PLFitba @SorchaEastwood It isn't mock. And it did.

However, the logic is that:

A. you think it was okay for SF then, and so it's okay for the DUP now; or

B. you thought it was outrageous then, so you think the DUP's behaviour is outrageous now.

Which of those is it?

FYI: we think Answer B.

@annie_mcginley @chhcalling Oh, I agree, but the ERG doesn't have clean hands in this either.

Chris wasn't concerned for NI when he pressed for the hardest possible Brexit, voted for the Protocol, or backed Boris who lied about it.

I'll be taking no lectures from ERG members on protecting NI's interests.

@johninrosc @chhcalling It isn't comparable. MLAs with mortgages, families to feed, who have something to offer the community and have done nothing wrong, would have to leave.

This isn't a row between local parties: one party is holding us to ransom over an agreement between UK & EU we can't influence.

@PLFitba @SorchaEastwood @duponline We've offered solutions to both the protocol and ransom politics. You're ignoring both.

@AidyYou @chhcalling Election to what, though?

Even if the DUP did lose votes, chances are they'd still have enough to block restoration.

In that case, another election without reform to allow an Assembly and Executive to be formed is £5-6m down the drain. It would serve no purpose.

@Billyblue266 @wdavidh13 @allianceparty This has been disproven mulitiple times.

Now, take your bigotry elsewhere.

.@chhcalling I support a pay cut: we can't be paid for what we aren't doing, but you share responsibility for this.

Brexit, Boris, and the fall-out from both are very much your mess. You supported them.

You could reform the GFA, so those who want to work can, but you haven't.
RT @chhcalling: For over 200 days MLAs have been receiving full pay while failing to fulfil the full duties they were elected to do.

Reducing their pay until an Assembly is restored reflec…
