@trevormartin136 @coleynumber1 We have wanted the UK to live up to its international obligations. That means either implementing the deal they negotiated and agreed or renegotiating a better alternative with the EU.
Breaking the law ought not to be an option. Saying so ought not to be controversial.

And as I said, it's a messy way to do business so I won't be doing it again.
In fairness, our preferred solution to being paid for doing part of the job would be to do all of the job. Sadly, we're prevented from doing so.

@spendango1 Lol. The protocol is part of the Brexit arrangements and is also a reserved matter, to which cross-community consent rules do not apply. If you believe in democracy, get over it. The majority support the protocol.

(Brexit and the Protocol are comparable as they are both international relations and reserved matters, to which cross-community consensus rules do not apply, before you tell me it was a UK-wide vote).

@buzzhornet @Tolstoy1999 I've said it isn't sustainable and called for a cut, which is now happening.
I paid back the payrise from 2020, as did colleagues, up to the last election, as pledged.
I'm not intending to do that for this larger sum as it isn't practical: it needs deducted at source.

Firstly, I'm no longer a minister.
Secondly, my former department had no power of arrest.
Thirdly, we have no power of arrest in other jurisdictions.

Change it - yes, but scrapping it would be a disaster (and businesses have been clear about that).
In any case, it's up to the UK and EU what happens, not the Assembly.
