@ShonaghJoice My dad was made redundant after health issues in the early 80s. Passed away a short time later when I was 11.
I ended up doing my first work experience in H&W and going on to be a civil engineer.
@Alanthehammer2 @Reciprocity5904 @BelTel @Justice_NI You would have to write to the Judge in that case or to the Lady Chief Justice. The judiciary are entirely independent in their decision-making and I cannot comment on those decisions.
@Reciprocity5904 @BelTel @Justice_NI Victim's rights are paramount and are set out in the Charter; however, that doesn't change the fact that those on bail (or remand) remain innocent in the eyes of the law. Restrictions must be reasonable and proportionate to protect the public and due process.
@aoifexo9 @Paul_Mc_Cusker @RobinSwannMoH @DeirdreHargey I completely agree. A justice-led approach isn't the answer to a health care problem.
We do work together on certain aspects of this work, but stronger coordination and (in my view) a radical rethink on UK policy is what's really needed.
@aoifexo9 @Paul_Mc_Cusker @RobinSwannMoH @DeirdreHargey That's why I'd prefer a harm reduction approach: that's the opposite to the crminalisation pathway the current UK Govt are wedded to and it's a reserved matter.
Here, DoJ relies on C&V workers to deliver therapeutic interventions: in Scotland health & courts are co-located.

@Paul_Mc_Cusker @RobinSwannMoH @DeirdreHargey Sadly, we don't have a government but it is a priority for those of us in office. As I've said, happy to come back out to meet people working with those affected once I'm back from leave. As you know, I think a far more radical intervention is required that those available to us.
@aoifexo9 @Paul_Mc_Cusker @RobinSwannMoH @DeirdreHargey We're implementing substance misuse courts, therapeutic interventions and reducing the illicit drugs available. The PSNI use multi-agency triage teams to assess someone endangering themselves or others. They also carry naloxone, which I advocated. UK-wide policy limits options.
@aoifexo9 @Paul_Mc_Cusker @RobinSwannMoH @DeirdreHargey I've discussed it many times, Aoife, and have met with frontline workers to discuss this. In my view, it is primarily a health issue; however, when the wrong or no support is provided for mental health and addiction, people often come into conflict with the Justice system.
