@johnney127 @Endagame32 @Steven_OConnor1 @ClogherHead1 Others will be swayed by evidence from experts not activists. We've said that evidence/discussion needs to move beyond the political space to academic and rigorous analysis of the benefits/costs and modalities/practicalities.
Convincing evidence needs to be impartially sourced.

Did being economically better off in the UK at various points convince young nationalists and republicans to support the union?

72% of MLAs voted to elect a Speaker and couldn't: that highlights the issue. Under parallel consent, the GFA wouldn't have been agreed & Alliance votes would have been discounted. We're no longer willing to treated as 2nd class.

Politics is about stepping up and leading from the front; Doug could use the opportunity to show they have a unique offer.
Right now, ransom politics is rewarded. Whatever our long-term future, that needs to stop. We need stable govt.

Seriously though, we set out why at the time, to the organisers. The tone was different to previous more open-ended, discursive events where we'd been happy to participate and contribute.

And it would be a hell of a lot better than letting the DUP hold us all to ransom as they are right now.

My point that it was a symptom of deep division at the heart of Irish society still stands.
I'm not an apologist for partition: I'm simply pointing out that division pre-existed it.
