A "Friedensordnung" with Russia would be a new Moloto-Ribbentrop pact and make Germany again complicit in the genocide of us "Zwischenländer".
Niemals wieder, remember?

More of a leader it seems than anyone in Europe, as
nitter.cz/charlyjsp
points out.
And yes it would be deeply embarrassing if Taylor Swift ends up the saviour of Europe.
It's time to make European defence the primary issue in the upcoming European Parliament elections.

Actually no. Not to panic.
But certainly to make European defence readiness *the* issue in June's European Parliament elections.
Every newspaper, every questioner at campaign events should ask, "what are you going to do about the defence of Europe?"

As usual, Timothy Garton Ash

is ahead of everyone. This is from 4 days before Trump said he'd encourage Russia to invade Europe.
As Putin and Trump threaten from east and west, Europe must stand up for itself. |

Now we just need leaders in Europe, not the ditherers and self-styled visionaries who have been such utter failures for the past twenty years since Russia invaded Georgia in 2008 and Europe did absolutely nothing.
People like

We've been waiting a long time for this.

They will do the usual saying the worst won't happen, as in "Russia wouldn't invade Ukraine".
Now, "Oh he won't win"
Everything is easier than hard decisions and leadership on the part of those who act like they are leaders in Europe.
They're not ostriches, they're westriches

If Russia wins in Ukraine, Europe will have 35 million refugees -- people who don't want to suffer the genocide we all know takes place in Russian occupied areas.
Europe is not ready for that. Its leaders worry instead about sending Tauruses and the cost of producing shells. 1/n

I would ask though, who are the leaders in Europe today to respond to these challenges?
In terms of real security Europe face its greatest challenges in at least two if not more generations.
Scholtz? Macron? Sunak?
Tusk could do it. Kallas perhaps. Stubb, if he wins.

The 🇩🇪 Chancellor announces that

is lost without US help - what catastrophic defeatism. He doesn't even try to bring Europe together in defense of freedom & security. It's our Europe! It's up to us to defend it!

One reason why for my entire public career I have pushed for tight relations between Estonia and Poland.
It's the only large country in the EU and NATO that understand what mass deportations mean.
The rest stare back blankly.

"What is missing from the Chancellor is the insight that it is not about handouts, but about German security interests: the better Ukraine is in a position to hit back Russia, the lower the threat to NATO, which directly means German security."
