In front of the Opera in Stockholm stands a statue of Karl XII, the king who unfortunately lost the battle of Poltava, consigning the Baltic countries, incl. Finland to Russian rule.

Re Karl's statue has his arm pointing East. Sometime in the 1960s the Soviet embassy apparently demanded the statue be turned in another direction since Karl pointing East was aggressive, if not "revanchist".
