Shadow MEPs would be taking part in parliamentary activities pretty much straight away sitting and debating in committees, without the right to vote until full accession is completed.

Preventing them to hold a referendum is preventing them to make that choice for Scotland to become and Independent country.

@ricoreid959 @RangersJim @AngusRobertson Had we had a referendum in 2020, an Independent Scotland would have entered negotiations straight away with rejoining the European Single Market and having representatives sitting in the European Parliament.
Back in the EU, just like that.
