RT by @carolinevoaden: We don’t know the details of this case yet, but we know a man came to us seeking sanctuary.

We had every ability to help him, but we put him on a barge instead as a symbol of our cruelty and hostility to people like him.

We know our asylum system is designed to kill hope.

What is it with Tory run councils chopping down trees?!
Iconic palm trees destroyed with no warning to public - and even the councillors didn’t know it was coming!
Makes you wonder who is running ⁦

Congrats to former colleagues in EP for the agreement on Energy Performance of Buildings.
This legislation will transform how EU powers its buildings.
Energy use will have to fall, solar panels & E car chargers installed.
The UK is missing out on a vital new law.

A good take on the widening urban / rural divide and the huge issues of connectivity for SW England.
Forget the 'Red Wall' – it's the West Country the Tories should be worried about

R to @carolinevoaden: Anyone have any clever ideas?
It doesn’t feel right that thieves know no one will follow up a crime report. Why should they care? Meanwhile others pay the cost over and over again - bikes, phones, cash, cards, laptops…

So frustrating to see the exact location of your daughter’s stolen phone, knowing police are doing nothing about this sort of ‘petty’ crime.
I would bet a lot of money that there are many nicked phones at that location, and probably a lot more besides.

Shameful that the US vetoed and the UK abstained on a UN Security Council vote to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and immediate release of all hostages.

The Labour Party has released another list of non-priority parliamentary seats today.
It shows that South Devon is not a priority for Labour - it will be a straight contest between the

and the Conservatives.
We can end 100 years of Tory MPs next year!

A seven hour journey to get from Southend to Totnes 🙄and it cost £145!
Only silver lining of such a crap service is I can now claim refunds for both outward and return journeys.
It’s no wonder our roads are gridlocked. (Well done Paddington tho for managing the chaos)

I've signed the
nitter.cz/EuropeanMovemen
petition for the UK to re-enter the Erasmus+ programme.
You can add your name too.
Leaving Erasmus+ was one of the most unnecessary and damaging effects of

This is why it matters:

R to @carolinevoaden: 1. Before Brexit around 17,000 UK students benefited each year from Erasmus+ programmes. They enriched students' academic experiences and exposed them to culture and language which made them more employable

R to @carolinevoaden: 2. Between 2007 and 2013, the UK received over £500 million more in funding from the EU for education and training than it contributed - a net earner for UK education from which we all as a country and economy benefit

R to @carolinevoaden: 3. Erasmus+ increased collaboration between universities, researchers and businesses across Europe.
We know that academic mobility is a positive for research output.
Our universities and our research capability lose out from not being part of Erasmus+

R to @carolinevoaden: 4. Erasmus+ strengthens the UK's soft power.
It fosters positive relationships and networks with European countries. It builds bridges.
It builds mutual understanding, tolerance and cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world.

R to @carolinevoaden: 5. Studies show that students who take part in Erasmus+ are more employable.
Employers highly value the skills they gain, which include adaptability, language proficiency and intercultural competence.

R to @carolinevoaden: We may have a government that wants to isolate us, to pull up the drawbridge and to alienate our former EU partners, but it doesn't have to be this way.

We must all raise our voices loud and clear to say that we value our young people, we value our universities and research
