Financial situation facing our councils after years of Government funding cuts is severe and unprecedented.
Grateful to

and finance officers for briefing me today.
If elected Police Commissioner, I will work in partnership with all local councils in our area. 1/2

R to @Rory_Palmer: I will work in partnership with all councils - of all parties- across Leics & Rutland as they navigate these challenging times and to argue for fairer funding for our local services.
My leadership will deliver the effective partnership working this situation demands. 2/2

RT by @Rory_Palmer: Rishi Sunak ends the year failing to deliver on the economy.

Labour is the only party with a long-term plan to grow the economy and make working people better off.

⭕️Next May it’s First Past the Post:
Next May’s Police & Crime Commissioner election is ‘First Past the Post’ - there’s no second preference votes.
But the Government still hasn’t bothered to update its official website with this important change and info for voters.

Previously voters could make a second preference vote. That’s no longer the case. For some reason, this info on the Government website continues to be inaccurate:

⭕️Next year’s Police & Crime Commissioner election is a ‘First Past The Post’ election.
Unlike previous PCC elections, voters cannot choose a second choice.
But the Conservative Government hasn’t bothered to update the official website about this change.
This info is wrong👇

R to @Rory_Palmer: I’ve just accessed the official Government website about Police & Crime Commissioner elections (link below).
This change to the voting system was made months ago. Woeful. Voters need and deserve accurate information on how elections will be run.

In this era of fake news, it’s doubly important official sources of information are accurate, particularly about something as important as how elections work.
This is just not good enough.

RT by @Rory_Palmer: The annual Chanukah celebration at Leicester Town Hall is always such a wonderful occasion.
Always a pleasure to be there, a full Council Chamber this evening with friends from many faiths for the Menorah lighting.

R to @Rory_Palmer: Rabbi Pink and his family always lead a such welcoming and poignant event, this year reflecting on the Jewish community’s contribution to Leicester through the generations, as told and presented brilliantly by young people. Nice to see lots of friends there this evening

R to @Rory_Palmer: ➡️Building on existing campaigns and work, and drawing on best practice, we will strengthen work in schools, colleges and universities to tackle and end VAWG, with specific toolkits and resources for teachers and education professionals.

R to @Rory_Palmer: ➡️Employers have a key role to play too. I will bring employers and trade unions together to develop workplace-based efforts to tackle and end VAWG and support those affected by domestic abuse and violence.

R to @Rory_Palmer: ➡️Where the law needs to be strengthened to support progress towards ending VAWG, I will always advocate and campaign for that. I have a track record of influencing and campaigning to change national legislation.
