An interesting analysis. The "next phase" after this freeze is presumable a re-invasion of Ukraine commensurate with the original objective?
I think Western allies would like this frozen conflict but are unwilling to see this scenario.

Watching this on Sky I can’t help being struck with horror at the descent into fascism in the US.
But polls show this is what voters may want.
Shame on you who do….

Not by military means. However leaked documents show an appalling plan to leave Ukraine as an impoverished rump and a source of cheap labour. Others will be sent to camps. I personally don’t think there are resources for Putin to advance further into Europe.
Yet. 😥

Listening to this from the Biden supporters of ⁦

⁩ it seems blindingly obvious that Biden should NOT be the nominee. The stakes are too high. He should step down.

If Trump is elected in 2024 a number of things will happen:
1. The US will descend in to fascism.
2. Ukraine will be abandoned and possibly overrun by Russia
3. The US will leave NATO

Ukraine’s supporters need to rethink their theory of victory

"Ukraine is not reconquering substantial territory, and aid is needed indefinitely to forestall a devastating defeat"
That means being overrun and re-invaded.

Excellent piece. I’m afraid I agree more with Ross Pelekh. Perhaps there also needs to be a definition of what “losing" looks like.
Ross puts it like this:
"Do I really need ‘cocktails in Crimea’ – the often-mentioned goal of many Ukrainians – if all my friends who I would drink with are dead?
Today we have been in this war for more than 20 months. I can only imagine the level of stress that these soldiers and their family endure. It is fair to say that even if one were lucky to get out of this war alive and in one piece, the common price is so big at this stage that mental damage will be a burden of a generation at least"
