Today, the European Parliament overwhelmingly approved the new Consumer Credit Directive. It thus successfully ended my year and a half long work for greater protection of consumers. I consider as the greatest success:
- enshrining of the right to be forgotten of cancer patients into the legal text
- regulation of advertising - similar to advertising on cigarette packages, credit advertising should newly contain a clear and prominent warning that borrowing money costs money
- forbearance measurers
- robust creditworthiness assessment
- buy now pay later and credit cards within the scope of the directive
- stricter rules on overdraft facilities and credit overrunning
- right to withdrawal and early repayment. # consumercredits
