7/7 A military defeat is the only realistic way to bring Putin down in Russia. The Russian population is largely zombified and supports the war. What Russian tyrants do not survive is military defeat and humiliation.
6/7 Russia must be defeated militarily also in the east and south of Ukraine. The alternative is not something we want to live with. Ukraine needs heavy weaponry and long-range weaponry right now.
5/7 If Ukraine had surrendered, we would be looking at an industrial-scale massacre right now. This is what Russians had been planning for. I hope all appeasers and peace doves gradually understand this. Русский мир, peace with Putin, would mean more - not less - dead people.
4/7 Russian state-controlled media has made it explicit that Russians had planned an ethnocide and genocide in Ukraine. This is not just a war of conquest but a war of annihilation. The aim was a cultural and physical destruction of Ukrainians.
3/7 Also, civilians have been killed by the thousands in Ukrainian cities. They are buried under rubble and we cannot see them, but they are no less dead than the corpses on the streets of Bucha.
Putin must be condemned for his crimes, not for making us feel bad.
2/7 The big picture is Putin's invasion. In Nuremberg, political and military leaders were tried, convicted, and hanged for planning and waging wars of aggression. While there can be debate about details, there can be no debate on whether Putin is guilty of a war of aggression.
1/7 While everyone is upset and outraged by the graphic images from Bucha, we should not lose sight of the big picture. Bucha is a mere detail thereof.

10/11 Nato members have indicated they will provide heavier equipment, including tanks and anti-ship missiles, to Ukraine. The Baltic states stop purchasing Russian gas. This is the right direction. This is the only language Mr Putin understands.

7/11 The West talked too long to Karadžič and Milošević. In the end, both of them had to be stopped by force anyway. All the talk and diplomacy only increased the death toll.

- A compromise between legitimate and illegitimate interests is an unjust compromise. It only leads to new misery.
- The evil does not negotiate in good faith. It uses your good faith to fool you.

3/11 Another similarity is the Western reaction. We have serious trouble recognizing evil when we see it. We have a strong tendency to believe all conflicts result from misunderstandings; that both sides have legitimate interests; that compromises can be found.

2/11 An obvious similarity is the bestial behavior of the Serb armies and militias in Croatia and Bosnia, and the Russian hordes in Ukraine. The killing and destruction, both small and large scale, has no recognizable purpose but is driven by sheer malice.
