Απέχουμε ακόμη αρκετά από την πλήρη ισότητα των φύλων σε όλους τους τομείς και ο χώρος της πολιτικής δεν είναι εξαίρεση, όπου η εκπροσώπηση των γυναικών παραμένει χαμηλή στα ευρωπαϊκά και εθνικά κέντρα λήψης αποφάσεων και σε κρίσιμες θέσεις ευθύνης που καθορίζουν το μέλλον μας.
Να  διαμορφώσουμε ουσιαστικές πολιτικές ίσων ευκαιριών που θα αναγνωρίζουν τις ικανότητες των γυναικών και θα απορρίπτουν τα στερεότυπα ώστε να αξιοποιηθούν τα ταλέντα και να αποφευχθεί η αποτροπή των γυναικών από τη συμμετοχή τους στην πολιτική. Μόνο έτσι θα χτίσουμε μια πιο ισότιμη και πιο δίκαιη Ευρώπη.

Η σημερινή Παγκόσμια Ημέρα κατά του Καρκίνου του Μαστού υπενθυμίζει σε όλες και όλους μας ότι ο καρκίνος του μαστού είναι μία νόσος που μπορεί να προληφθεί και να θεραπευτεί πλήρως.
Η πρόληψη και η έγκαιρη διάγνωση είναι σύμμαχός μας.
Ως Ευρωβουλευτής, μέλος της Ομάδας των Ευρωβουλευτών κατά του Καρκίνου, και ως Πρόεδρος της Εuropa Donna Hellas, του ελληνικού παραρτήματος του Πανευρωπαϊκού Συνασπισμού κατά του Καρκίνου του Μαστού Europa Donna, γνωρίζω την αγωνία των ασθενών και τον αγώνα που δίνει όλη η οικογένεια, όταν η γυναίκα νοσεί.
Στην Ευρωβουλή έχουμε εργαστεί συστηματικά ώστε ο καρκίνος του μαστού να μπει υψηλά στις ευρωπαϊκές και τις εθνικές πολιτικές για την υγεία.
Ζητούμε φιλόδοξα μέτρα σε όλα τα στάδια: στην ενημέρωση και ευαισθητοποίηση, την πρόληψη, την έγκαιρη ανίχνευση και διάγνωση, την ισότιμη πρόσβαση στον προσυμπτωματικό έλεγχο και σε βέλτιστες ιατρικές υπηρεσίες θεραπείας.
Πιέζουμε για ακόμη μεγαλύτερη υποστήριξη στην ομαλή προσαρμογή και επανένταξη στην καθημερινότητα, στην εργασία, στο κοινωνικό περιβάλλον.
Αγωνιζόμαστε συνολικά για το δικαίωμα όλων μας στην καλύτερη δυνατή ποιότητα ζωής μετά τον καρκίνο αλλά και στην υιοθέτηση υγιούς τρόπου ζωής, που είναι ασπίδα πρόληψης.
Διεκδικούμε ισχυρά δημόσια συστήματα υγείας και ισότιμες ευκαιρίες πρόσβασης στον έλεγχο και τη φροντίδα, ώστε στην Ελλάδα και σε κάθε χώρα, καμία γυναίκα να μην νιώθει και να μην είναι μόνη.
Ο αγώνας ενάντια στον καρκίνο του μαστού είναι υπόθεση όλων μας.
