Our Executive Director @susan_steele_ visited Ireland's🇮🇪 new state-of-the-art marine research vessel the Tom Crean at the port of Vigo. The vessel will support key international programmes in fish stock assessment, supporting the implementation of the #CommonFisheriesPolicy.

2021 was the year in which @susan_steele_ took up the duties as Executive Director of EFCA, bringing her knowledge and experience to the agency's mission of promoting the highest common standards for control, inspection and surveillance under the #CFP
Our chartered vessels #LundySentinel (with a light #RPAS on board) and #Aegis provided a robust platform for 🇪🇺MS leading to a total of 77 inspections & 22 suspected infringements detected.
This promoted transparency & a level playing field fostering a good exchange of expertise
The Working Agreement with @EMSA_LISBON and @Frontex was renewed in 2021 to support national authorities carrying out coast guard functions and to provide assistance and expertise on coordination and fisheries control.

In the international dimension of the #CommonFisheriesPolicy, we continued to contribute to the EU fight against #IUU fishing.
We cooperate with third countries & international organisations dealing with fisheries 🐡 such as the Regional Fisheries Management Organisations #RFMO
💻A Virtual Coordination Network was set in the #NorthSea and #WesternWaters 🌊
Together with the Member States regional Control Expert Groups, we promoted a common understanding of areas such as :
🔺Landing Obligation #LO
🔺Risk assessment
🔺compliance evaluation
🔺#REM 🎥
Despite the restrictions, all six Joint Deployment Plans were implemented as planned.
The joint efforts led to 53 567 inspections and to the detection of 4 031 suspected infringements.
