RT @british_north: Brilliance by @DanielJHannan:
“That is what a constitutional monarch is: a military commander who is not a general, a head of state who is not a politician, a focus for national loyalty who is above ideology and beyond faction.”

Suppose you're a Russian general. You're watching this stuff, and you're getting a pretty good sense of whom Putin will blame in defeat. Are you going to sit back and wait to be arrested, or try to install a less deranged regime?

Leave it longer and the price will rise again.

@davidfrum Plus handing over the men wanted in connection with the Litvinenko and Skripal murders. Oh, and Russia should give up sovereignty over Rostov and Voronezh - to teach Sergei Lavrov to mind his manners around British foreign secretaries.

The late Roger Scruton expressed the paradox eloquently when he likened the magic of monarchy to the enchanting light from the top of a Christmas tree, which the British people perfectly well remembered having climbed up and placed there themselves.
