RT @tomhfh: I genuinely don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say that the crippling of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc will have more of an impact on the long term growth and productivity of the UK than Covid has.

RT @DanielJHannan: @bbcnickrobinson Thanks for engaging, Nick, but I don’t think this is playing with words. Politicians are drawn to the idea of taxing “the oil companies” or “the banks” because it sounds like someone else will pay. But almost all taxes end up being paid by (in your phrase) ordinary people.

@bbcnickrobinson Sure. But in what sense are customers, managers, employees and shareholders (and suppliers, come to that) not ordinary people?

Sorry to hear @bbcnickrobinson talk about “taxing businesses rather than ordinary people”. All taxes are paid by human beings. Businesses no more pay business tax than your TV set pays the licence fee or your house the council tax. Firms must pass taxes on to their customers.

@RealSimonFox @AnotherDevGuy @MrHarryCole OK, OK, the quality of my puns is starting to saag. Time to hit the pilau.

@RealSimonFox @AnotherDevGuy @MrHarryCole Ah, Goan! It’s nothing to karahi about.

@AnotherDevGuy @MrHarryCole I’m happy to curry on. At least in small dosas.

I get that there are strong feelings on both sides of the abortion debate. It could hardly be otherwise. But I am taken aback by the frothing rage that has been provoked by the suggestion of putting the issue to voters.

The tax take from companies rises and falls over the business cycle. Firms make their plans accordingly. When governments retrospectively change the rules to punish them, it amounts to expropriation. Extraordinary to see every opposition party backing this nonsense.

RT @BrugesGroup: “A year on, the pandemic remains an all-purpose excuse for idleness, failure and poor performance,” writes @DanielJHannan

An accurate assessment. Rees-Mogg is right to tackle this head on, regardless of the predictable pantomime chorus of opposition.

@Miss_Snuffy In 1911, Edward Thorndike found that the greatest cognitive difference was “in the relative strength of the interest in things and their mechanisms (stronger in men) and the interest in persons and their feelings (stronger in women).” Almost every study shows the same thing.

"Even more important than the military aid was Boris Johnson's message - that Ukraine will win, and that you will be with us until the end. Thank you. And God Save the Queen!"
RT @BBCPolitics: "That was a very symbolic and beautiful gesture of support from the United Kingdom"
