Top marks. ORP Błyskawica was built in Cowes, and spent most of WW2 fighting with the Royal Navy - including, appropriately, defending Cowes from an air raid. She briefly became a British vessel after 1945. A reminder that Poles fought alongside us from the beginning to the end.
RT @Scatha4: @DanielJHannan Gdynia, Poland. And this particular ship was built in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

I am still trying to get my head around the EU sanctioning Poland and Hungary when they are taking, respectively, the largest and second-largest number of Ukrainian refugees - and are doing so cheerfully and uncomplainingly. olsztyn.tvp.pl/59533304/europe

France faces an unappetising choice between a Putin enabler and a Putin ally.

@RussianEmbassy @JamesDelingpole Good morning. This is the border between Poland and the Kaliningrad exclave this morning. I know which side I’d rather be on. 🇵🇱🇺🇦🇬🇧

@RhonddaBryant If by “them” you mean politicians or their families, that’s plainly nonsense. These are the same rules for everyone.
If you mean “people with an overseas domicile” - well, duh. The tax and benefits system depends on making distinctions in people’s national status.

@ConnorAllenEU @McGuinnessEU I’d say the opposite. Producing something yourself that you can import more cheaply always and everywhere makes you poorer. It can be justified only if you think the exporter is a hostile power - and often not even then.

It’s a pity that ⁦@McGuinnessEU⁩ sees dependence on British financial services as being in some way comparable to dependence on Russian gas. When will Brussels understand that the UK is a friendly neighbour, not a strategic threat? telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/

Of course, much of the criticism isn’t really about non dom status. It’s about resentment at the idea that anyone - especially @RishiSunak - should be wealthy. Envy is an ugly and debilitating condition. But it is not nearly as widespread as sufferers suppose.
RT @DanielJHannan: Good for @RishiSunak. He is reaching into his own pocket to buy bursaries for poorer kids to get a first-class education. Why is this remotely controvers…

Penalising non doms (“rich foreigners”) is textbook foolish populism. It generates sympathetic tabloid headings, but reduces tax revenue, meaning that the rest of us have to stump up more. Indeed, as @rcolvile shows, tightening the rules has already made Britain poorer.

Successive Labour & Tory governments have recognised that non dom status is both fair (non doms shouldn’t be double-taxed) and practical (having non doms here boosts revenue). If you disagree, fine. But the system doesn’t become wrong because you disapprove of a particular case.

RT @AllisonPearson: Other countries do not have health services with 6 million plus on the hospital waiting list.
Other health systems did not become Covid-only services.
Jeeze, what a mess.
