RT @arisroussinos: Russian arguments on Ukrainian nationhood (Ukraine is fake, a modern construct etc) are surely the 1970s-80s Modernist hypothesis on nationalism, beloved of many Western midwits, applied to great power politics

One of the most disgraceful things we did in WW2 was to declare war on Finland on 6 Dec 1941 when the Finns sought to push the Soviets out. Yes, it was a technical declaration, and nothing came of it. But it was still wrong, and guaranteeing Finns’ security now is restitution.

They are a long term assurance to bolster military ties and global stability, and fortify Europe’s defences for generations to come.

Unionism assumes that you can be Irish and British - indeed, it arguably stemmed from the conviction that to be Irish was also to be British. But there is no version of Republicanism that is not based on a rejection of Britishness.

RT @DavidGHFrost: 4/4 The EU has refused to consider any other way of dealing with the problems both in 2019 and later. @MarosSefcovic says they won't change their approach. Unless they do, it seems inevitable that the UK Government @trussliz @FCDOGovUK will have to act unilaterally.

As I argued at the time, Twitter had every right to ban Trump, but was foolish to exercise that right. Once it banned a US politician on essentially virtue-signalling grounds, it was bound to look absurd by hosting the Taliban, various dictatorships etc. conservativehome.com/thecolumn
