No PM since 1940 has taken over in harder times. The war and the spike in energy prices hit before the economy had begun to heal from the lockdowns. We have NHS backlogs, a diminished workforce and vast debts.
All of us should wish @trussliz luck. Her successes will be Britain's.

1. I am more optimistic than I was about food exports. Even before grain shipments from Odessa resumed, other routes were opening.
2. I am, though, less optimistic about a breakthrough in Kherson. This ghastly war seems set to last.

My friend @BrooksNewmark has so far evacuated 14,000 women & children from the war zone. We spent today in Mykolaiv, which is under constant bombardment and has lost its water supply, but where we still found some amazing cakes. The resilience of Ukrainians is humbling.

Shall I tell you the worst thing about this law-breaking? It’s not the flagrant vandalism. It’s not even the idiocy of demanding a citizens’ assembly in the world’s preeminent assembly of elected citizens. It’s that humouring these fools is what gave the energy crisis.
