Don't condemn effects and ignore causes. Don't pretend repression in #Tunisia has nothing to do with the #EU. The EU is a participant in a wider regime of global inequality extracting its price there, a pattern repeated across #Africa, across the world. It's our repression too.

The idea of an independent EU ethics body is something to be welcomed. But if the ethics body focuses only on individual behaviour and doesn't address systemic issues, such as the institutionalisation of lobbying in EU bodies, we run the real risk of fiddling while Rome burns.

The people of Syria were abandoned before the earthquake ever hit,its economy and reconstruction battered by Western sanctions. The UN Syria humanitarian programme last year was only 47% funded. Aid agencies are screaming for sanctions to be lifted, or thousands more may die.

It should never happen that people work their entire lives only to see their pensions decimated by decisions of faraway management. Ireland's 'softly softly' approach to multinationals is not good enough. I support revising the European Works Council Directive to address this.

We reject the vision of a militarised European Union driven by the establishment and the arms industry. Stability and peace can only be achieved through peaceful conflict resolution, arms control and disarmament measures. Militarism and war are not and never will be the solution.

The EU's anti-money laundering blacklist is biased and inconsistent, and has more to do with lobbying power than a genuine assessment of risk. Nothing about the Netherlands, Ireland, the US or the UAE, but Vanuatu, with a GDP 9% of Greece's, is a threat to EU financial integrity?

Nobody wins in war & no serious person thinks Ukraine can win an absolute victory in this one. 1000s of civilians & 10,000s of soldiers dead. 1,000,000s displaced. For Ukraine to survive, for any peace to be just & sustainable, shrill jingoism & belligerence from the EU must end.

Afghan people do not deserve to suffer for the West losing its unjust war. Hard to take the hand-wringing when hardly 10/700 MEPs can bother to talk about the desperate conditions faced by millions in Afghanistan. We have to face facts and drop sanctions to let Afghans live.

I oppose the death penalty categorically & I abhor its use in Iran. Imperialist meddling is a fact but it is not an excuse. The West is poised to exploit crisis for geopolitical gain. If repression continues and the legitimate demands are not heeded, I'm fearful for Iran's future
