Toen hij achter de microfoon zat, ontstond er een klik in z'n hoofd en zong hij alsof hij op z'n best was, met de grootste overtuiging kwam zijn bezieling terug. Muziek doet namelijk wonderen. Je ziet haar onwaarschijnlijke reactie op dat ongelooflijke moment.

When you're 29, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, global GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet.

When you're 41, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war and the Holocaust kills six million. At 52, the Korean War starts and five million perish.

At 64 the Vietnam War begins, and it doesn’t end for many years. Four million people die in that conflict. Approaching your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, could well have ended. Great leaders prevented that from happening.

As you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How do you survive all of that? A child in 1985 didn’t think their 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. Yet those grandparents survived through everything listed above.

Perspective is an amazing thing. With so much happening right now and as 2023 ends, let's try to keep things in perspective, knowing that we will get through all of this. In the history of the world, there has never been a storm that lasted forever. This too shall pass.

De vraag is niet: ben je voor Israël of voor de Palestijnen. Dat zou betekenen dat óf de een óf de ander vernietigd mag worden. De internationale gemeenschap MOET NU afdwingen dat er een situatie ontstaat die voor beide partijen werkbaar, leefbaar, acceptabel is.

One company in Japan, where smoking is deeply ingrained into culture, decided to do something about it in 2017. After a non-smoking employee submitted a complaint about how smoke breaks were affecting productivity, marketing firm Piala Inc. made a change to its paid time off policy.

The company granted non-smoking staff an additional six days off each year to make up for the time smokers take for cigarette breaks.

About one-third of the people at the company were smokers and stepped away from their desks during the day for cigarette breaks.

The incentive had some success and a number of employee decided to quit smoking.

RT by @AnneMarieMineur: Just 9,000 years ago Britain was connected to continental Europe by an area of land called Doggerland, which is now submerged beneath the southern North Sea.

Doggerland was a mix of marshes, swamps, wooded valleys and hills, and most likely inhabited by humans during the Mesolithic period (10,000 to 8,000 BCE). It was teeming with migrating wildlife and served as a seasonal hunting ground for humans.

However, as ice melted at the end of the last glacial period, sea levels rose and Doggerland eventually became submerged, cutting off the British peninsula from the European continent by around 7,000 BC.

Dogger Bank (shown on the map) briefly remained an island before submerging underwater. The area today is known among fishermen to be a productive fishing bank and is very shallow at only about 50 to 120 ft (15 - 36 m) deep.

Over the years fishermen from the North Sea have dredged up hand-made bone artifacts, textile fragments, paddles, dug-out canoes, fish traps, a 13,000-year-old human remain, a woolly mammoth skull and a skull fragment of a 40,000-year-old Neanderthal.
