Today I published my draft report on the short-term rental regulation.

My priority for the upcoming negotiations is to make sure that authorities are able to enforce rules on platforms like Airbnb to ensure affordable housing and liveable cities.

To achieve this, we need:

👉 Registration procedures for hosts on platforms like Airbnb to be linked to local authorisation schemes. Hosts on platforms like Airbnb should not be able to publish ads before they are authorized.

👉 Local authorities should be able to suspend or withdraw registration numbers for short term rentals quicker in case of incorrect information or suspicion of fraudulent use.

👉 The obligations of the platforms regarding the advertisement of illegal listings to be strengthened. They need to inform hosts of the rules that are in place and should ask for a valid registration number for areas where a registration obligation exists.

👉 In order to make sure this regulation can make a difference, it should enter into force after 1 year and be evaluated 3 years later, since this is a quickly evolving sector.
