NitterRobert Kimbell (@Rob_Kimbell)Remain/Rejoin lies exposed. In the run-up to the 2016 EU referendum in the UK the Cameron/Osborne-led Remain government claimed in a leaflet sent to every UK household that the UK replicating all EU trade deals would take a decade or more. In the event, we've morphed all bar two (Algeria and Montenegro) into continuity trade deals, post-Brexit, and they cover more than 100 countries worldwide. Some are even improvements on the previous EU deals, for example the one involving South Africa lifts the quota on RSA wine exports to the UK. But the Remain/Rejoin propaganda went far further. They claimed that on leaving the EU, the UK would find it hard to secure fresh FTAs as Britain was just a small island on the edge of Europe and all serious players would ignore us; that the UK is now isolated, abandoned, friendless. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the UK secured modern FTAs with Japan, Australia, New Zealand and digital economy DEA deals with Singapore and Ukraine. To cap it all, for the time being at least, the UK will be warmly admitted on Sunday 16 July 2023 into the vast free trade group CPTPP. Thereafter will come FTAs with rapidly rising economic superpower India and with the Gulf bloc GCC. Putting the record straight is so sweet.
