++ Statement on the REPORT on policy implications of the development of virtual worlds. ++
Dear fellow citizens,
Unfortunately, some inaccurate accusations against me regarding my voting behavior on the above-mentioned report are currently circulating in some Telegram groups.
The document focuses on raising users' awareness of the traces they can leave behind in virtual worlds and emphasizes the importance of anonymization services to protect privacy.
The claim that the vote is intended to remove anonymity on the internet or silence users is therefore not true. Especially as this was only a current status report and not the final adoption of a law.
My decision to abstain from the vote means neither approval nor rejection of the report, but rather shows that I am taking a neutral position here. Precisely because a corresponding regulation is important, but in my opinion belongs to the competence of the Member States and not the EU, abstention was the only possible option for me.
The accusations against me and some of my colleagues are therefore unfounded and are probably based on a misunderstanding of the content and intentions of the document.
I hope that I have been able to contribute to transparency and clarification of the situation with this additional information.
Kind regards,
Yours, Christine Anderson, MEP (AfD)
