"President Putin has lost Ukraine forever. This is a major strategic defeat for Russia," the secretary-general said in an interview with dpa.

The head of the alliance also recalled the price that Russia has to pay for the war: it has already lost hundreds of airplanes, thousands of tanks and hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed and wounded, inflation has risen and living standards have fallen because of the war.
