In 2022 the number of women providing unpaid care versus men each week was 181,592 versus 117,536 - therefore a #EuropeanCareStrategy must take account of the larger proportion of women providing unpaid care in our society.

People aged between 50 and 59 were the group most likely to be providing regular unpaid care.

In Mayo, 7% of the population identified as unpaid carers, the highest in Ireland.

Dublin City had the lowest proportion of the population providing unpaid care at 5%.
