The European Commission sends the Commissioner who understands and feels agriculture best to this morning’s debate - smart. But it is not her portfolio. Where is the (invisible) agriculture Commissioner, where is the (activist) environment Commissioner?

Some interesting elements in @McGuinnessEU ‘s speech: “we need to see how all these proposals work together”. Agreed! Then why is the proposal on new breeding techniques not on the table? You can only lower the use of plant protection products if you allow credible alternatives.

The Commission also argues: we all agree on the objective to protect biodiversity. Indeed we do. The EPP does for sure. But the badly written Nature Restoration Law is not the way to do it. It needs to go back to the drawing board.

For me it’s clear: almost all farmers understand change is needed. They have been doing nothing else. The EPP wants to ensure this is done with them and not against them. The Green Deal needs to be green AND an attractive deal - ensuring jobs in Europe, in cities and rural areas.
