This week @Tineke_Strik and I are on a mission in #Mauritania and #Senegal. We will focus on the #Frontex status agreements that the #EU is currently negotiating with both countries, and possible human rights implications for people on the move.

The Status Agreements, once negotiated need to be approved by the European Parliament. @TinekeStrik is the rapporteur for Mauritania and I am the Rapporteur for Senegal. @Left_EU

This is why we are in both countries to look at implications for fundamental rights of such agreements with Frontex in particular access to the asylum procedure. In addition we are worried about provisons that Frontex staff should enjoy immunity, meaning they can't be prosecuted.

The so called "Status Agreement" would allow #Frontex to deploy border guards and perform border management tasks in Mauretania and Senegal. It is the first time in history that the EU plans to conclude these agreements with African countries.
