Unfinished business: the challenge of ending #tuberculosis in the European Region.
We have a sobering warning this #WorldTBDay - despite having the tools to end #TB, the European Region remains a long way from meeting its targets.

To #endTB, it is necessary to:
- stop transmission (identification of active TB cases)
- prevent development of TB in infected patients.
There is also an increased burden of drug-resistant cases, low treatment success rates & service disruption caused by the #COVID19 pandemic.

Just three years ago, prior to the pandemic, the Region was experiencing the fastest decline in #TB incidence and mortality in the world.
In 2021, TB mortality in the Region increased compared to 2020, and the declining incidence curve has stalled for the first time in 20 years.
