RT @ian_simpson80: The world is watching.... 👀

is at the brink - but ready for a new (better) chapter.

Trzymamy za Ciebie kciuki, Polsko! 💗

This is how our nationalist ruling party is discouraging Poles from a protest march against the launch of a kangaroo court which aims to eliminate their rivals from politics.
For some reason they fail to mention that half of Polish citizens killed during World War Two were Jews.

RT @BDStanley: PiS is attempting to discredit a large protest march scheduled for this Sunday by evoking Auschwitz and the mass murder of Poles during WW2 (characteristically, they don't mention Jews). t.co/Bh2CZfXJxB

Some tweets age badly, others quite well.
RT @radeksikorski: @mfa_russia @KremlinRussia_E @mod_russia @RusEmbUSA @RussianEmbassy @EmbassyofRussia @RusEmbIndia @Dpol_un @Amb_Ulyanov @A__Alimov @mission_russian Let me put this as diplomatically as I can:
Fuck you and your lies.
Long live free Ukraine!

Poland used to be an icon of a successful democratic and free market transformation. Ruling nationalists have now provoked the most withering criticism from a key ally in over 30 years.

A "Committee on Russian Influences' composed of ruling party hacks will be able to exclude key opposition figures from politics. As a well-known Russian stooge, ever since I reported on the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1980s, I expect to be a target.
Stay tuned.

RT @EPPGroup: We are deeply concerned about the 'Tusk Law,' which targets the opposition in 🇵🇱, especially @donaldtusk.

The @EPPGroup will request a European Parliament debate on the bill.

The law cannot be used to eliminate political opponents.

Because Poles have been generous toward Ukrainian refugees and Poland has supported Ukraine with arms and logistics, many commentators have missed the slide toward autocracy. designed to exclude key opposition figures from politics is outrageous but not surprising.

🐦🔗: n.respublicae.eu/radeksikorski

RT @anneapplebaum: The irony: President Biden has twice been to Poland to make speeches about fighting for democracy in Ukraine. Meanwhile Poland itself is heading rapidly in the direction of autocracy, and building Putinist institutions.

RT @anneapplebaum: Thread, on Poland's new neo-Bolshevist, exta-constitutional commission. The ruling party will use it to eliminate opponents under the pretense of eliminating Russian influence. Actual Russian agents in Poland, including those in PiS, will continue as before. t.co/vuDQduWigk

RT @TimothyDSnyder: Poland has just passed an unconstitutional measure that violates basic principles of the rule of law. It empowers an unconstrained extrajudicial commission (a bit like a Stalinist troika) to remove the opposition from participation in public life. t.co/1oVqiH4ade

President @AndrzejDuda has now signed it.
Ruling nationalists can now exclude their key rivals from politics.
RT @anneapplebaum: Polish ruling party has now passed this law (over the objections of the Senate and of the parliamentary commission on internal affairs) creating an unconstitutional committee that will enable them to exclude opponents from politics t.co/aJ0EXuCL2T

Three years after the politically motivated incarceration of Sjarhej Tsikhaniuski, the criminal regime of Lukashenka still holds him hostage. We will not rest until Belarus and all the political prisoners are freed from the grip of autocracy. @EPPGroup @grupaepl
