Topics to be discussed include young farmers and generational renewal, animal welfare and maintenance of rural areas.

We need to retain young people in rural areas and attract new rural residents.
The population in rural areas is already older and shrinking more, on average, than the population in towns and suburbs and cities.

This year will be a very important year overall for the rural vision. We will take stock on the programming of EU funds for rural areas by mid-2023 and we will take stock on the implementation of the rural vision so far.

And in the first trimester of 2024, we will publish a report on how to enhance support for rural areas in the future.

It is just unthinkable if not impossible to ensure the future sustainability of EU agriculture and rural areas without young farmers and rural youth.

We also need to provide opportunities and services to rural youth. To develop infrastructures and basic services in villages, to develop local economy and businesses in rural areas have utmost importance for the future.
