People affected by the project are more likely to be women, not being considered as rightful landowners and therefore more often deprived of any compensation while not being able anymore to work on affected fields to feed their families.
Affected people claim they were forced to sign unfavourable contracts depriving them immediately of their living conditions and property by abandoning their fields and cutting them off of their current income, worsening their socio-economic conditions in an alarming rate.

There are approx. 118 000 people affected by the project, many claiming that their land has been taken away; who have been guaranteed compensation in 2018 which has still not been paid in 2022, leaving people behind without fair, timely and appropriate compensation.

The basis for this Statement is the fact that the P in EACOP stands for pipeline. Through a pipeline, oil is transported somewhere else. In this case Tanga. So no oil for Uganda.
