Looking forward to continuing this important work with 🇨🇿 Minister Jozef Sikela @EU2022_CZ, in addition to the ongoing work on legislative proposals for a fair, digital and green transition in consumers protection.
Thank you @EU2022_CZ for hosting today’s meeting.
I will also convene an ad hoc meeting with the national consumer authorities #CPCNetwork to explore ways to ensure strong enforcement of consumer rights in the energy crisis.
Together, we must monitor & act against possible abusive commercial practices of traders or providers.
@EU_Commission propose also to reduce electricity consumption at peak price hours.
To deliver further on this, we will launch a coordinated information and awareness campaign at EU level to support all consumers in their efforts to save energy and reduce their consumption at home
To protect consumers, the measures proposed by @vonderleyen are expected to bring about 140 bn euros for MS:
🔸Cap on revenues of companies that produce electricity at a low cost
🔸Solidarity contribution on excess profits
Today’s discussions in the ministerial meeting @EU2022_CZ on consumer protection reminded us of the need for 🇪🇺 unity in the face of global challenges.
Tangible and effective solutions were discussed to ensure that consumers are supported throughout the crisis. ⤵️
I was pleased to meet 🇦🇹 Minister @Johannes_rauch in the margins of the ministerial meeting.
We discussed the progress made on the #NewConsumerAgenda and the need to step up our actions to support consumers through the cost-of-living crisis as a result of the war in 🇺🇦
