I talked to a constituent this week who may lose her house as they can't afford the remortgage payments due next year. Works in NHS. Heartbroken that they probably won't find anything else they can afford in the local community.

@paulwill318 So depressing to drive into Exeter past another huge new development of detached identikit box houses. Why can't we develop modern terraces - easier to heat, cheaper to install renewables, use less materials, grey water etc. too.

@paulwill318 into new housing schemes; more swimming pools, tennis courts, football pitches; better transport links to green spaces outside towns and cities; proper cycle lanes that actually encourage people to cycle... It's all doable. It requires a change of mindset and spending priorities

@paulwill318 Not sure I agree it requires brainwashing. What it does require is a change of mindset and accessibility for everyone - meaning location and cost. Building good habits at school, subsidising leisure facilities (cheaper than healthcare), forcing developers to include green spaces

@paulwill318 Direct investment in green tech, renewable energy, insulation, health prevention/promotion of healthy living etc means a) lots of jobs = more tax receipts b) climate action and c) healthier/happier people = less pressure on health services = lower costs.
Seems to me like a win
